Natural remedies for eczema – what else do we think about when we’ve been hit with this terrible dry skin affliction!
When the ugly, itchy condition erupts on our face or arms our first thought is probably how embarrassing it is. But pretty quickly we find ourselves scrambling for natural cures. The medicated eczema remedies are Ok in their place, but all of us want to know what the low-level, inexpensive, harmless cures are before we lock ourselves in to prolonged use of chemicals on our already-sensitive skin. So the hunt for a pure, natural cure begins.
Well, there is some good news. There are a number of simple, natural things we can use to combat an outbreak of eczema. So, put aside the urge to scratch and break your skin. Find ways of bearing with the discomfort, even though this can be severe at times. Instead, try some of these remedies. They are among the most effective you will find outside your doctor’s surgery, or dermatologist’s clinic.
First up, get rid of all the products you have which have been laced with perfume. There are some harsh ingredients in many commercial perfumes and eczema sufferers often find their condition flares up when they rub or spray on sweet smelling products. This is a simple thing you should try first. If this is not in itself sufficient to reduce your eczema, then go to the next suggestion.
That is to use filtered water when you bathe. Fit a home filter onto your shower and this may be a real help to you. In tens of thousands of municipalities though the country our water authorities carelessly allow chemicals to pass their large, industrial-size water purification plants. Some even add chemicals, like chlorine, to the public water supply thinking it is making water in their city pure. Where ever there are chemicals in the water there is scope for your skin to be irritated by them. A simple, inexpensive home filter fitted right onto your shower unit will stop them. And that may stop your eczema also. Try it.
One other thing you should also try is to strictly regulate the level of acid pH on your skin. Check the labels on the soap and shampoos you buy and only get the products with significantly low pH levels. Too much pH on your skin is a classic cause of itchy skin and eczema. So an obvious, natural remedy for eczema is to keep the pH on your skin surface as low as you can.
Sugar can cause eczema to flare up and drive you to distraction with itching and pain. This is because there is a proven link between higher blood sugar levels and eczema. The exact reason for the link is not widely understood. But sufferers who are able to significantly lower their intake of sugar do report a lowering of the itching and discomfort their eczema used to bring. So, read those labels when you’re in the super market and get the food that is sugar-low. (Sugar-rich colas, for example, should be banned from your refrigerator!)
A rather costly natural remedy for eczema you may be in a position to try, is to filter the air in your home or office. Skin conditions are exacerbated by germs, as a rule, and if a filter will remove them from your environment and then this will help. But I appreciate this is a measure of last resort. Before trying this one, see if the other natural remedies for eczema will help you first.
